iHacked

I decided to give hacking my iPod's firmware a try. It wasn't hard at all, with the help of iPod Wizard. It allows you to alter the firmware by replacing graphics, fonts, and text. I replaced the dumb NO sign (circle with a line through it) that flashes when the iPod is connected to the PC with a picture of Wally, my cat.

Ha, that's pretty cool!

I have ordered an iPod Shuffle. It's in the budget, is all I can say, at $149 for the 1 GB model. It's baby steps... actually next step is giant step, getting a laptop and then maybe someday I will get a full iPod which will be like a newborn strapped with 20 sticks of dynamite.

Check out the Apple Web site if you want a laugh -- they show it next to two packs of gum, and then have a disclaimer at the bottom: "Do not eat iPod Shuffle." NICE. Hmm...

Cool. The shuffle looks pretty neat. Plus, you can plug it right into USB and use it as a little drive if you want. If I was loaded I'd probably pick one up in addition to the regular iPod. The one I have is almost too much sometimes (dynamite is heavy!). For now it's fine, but where am I gonna keep this thing in the summertime when I have far fewer pockets?

Here's to your new iPod Shuffle. Enjoy it!

Yeah, the shuffle is tiny and has that armband thingie... (well it's an add-on) so you can just sort of wear it. I also bribed myself to buy it by making a vow that I have to start working out again -- before I become in such terrible shape that I can't climb a flight of stairs.
