Helter Stupid

I keep forgetting to mention this. Remember when I was considering buying an iPod and was looking at the different models and joked about wanting a Negativland iPod rather than the U2 Edition one?

Well, lo and behold, some dude is indeed selling a Negativland iPod. He's been trying to auction it off on eBay since Decemember (though I didn't know about it until recently, I swear), but Apple threatened to sue and caused the cowards at eBay to cancel the auction. So now he's doing the auctioning on his own site. According to him: “All profits from the sale of the Unauthorized iPod U2 vs. Negativland Special Edition will be donated to Downhill Battle, a not-for-profit organization working to build a fairer music industry.” The current bid is at $667. [via Boing Boing, Wired]

Hey, Apple: Please just shut the fuck up. This guy bought one of your iPods, put some Negativland songs on it and now he's selling it. It has nothing to do with you. He owns that particular iPod, not you. Besides, if you were as hip as you think you are, you'd have thought of it yourself. Now calm down and continue enjoying those profits you're making on your overpriced gadgets.

NICE! Hahaha. Yeah, I coveted the black iPod other than the fact that it's associated with U2. I always thought that was weak. When in reality I would just want a black iPod.

Hey, do you have problems with the iPod earbuds? They fall out of my ears. I am beginning to wonder if I have deformed ears or something.

Hehe. Yes, weak. They definitely should offer a few basic colors on the regular iPods. But you know what I found today? There's this company that colorizes electronics, including iPods (for a fee, of course). Check it out. The thing is it looks like you have to buy the iPod from them.

I'm pretty satisfied with my setup. I would put a cover on it anyway, so it doesn't matter too much. I got one of those iSkin things in black, so mine is pretty black as it is (just the gray clickwheel shows through).

I definitely had those damn buds pop out a few times. I had to ditch them almost immediately for various reasons. And I imagine quite a few people have the same problem. So, no—I don't think your ears are deformed. :)

The ones I have are these Sony buds my friend recommended, the MDR-EX71s. I got mine in black (to match my cover...woohoo!) but they also make them in white. The part that goes in your ear is squishy rubber (detachable, with 3 different sizes). You push them into the ear canal, which gives you better bass and blocks outside noise. I find them much more comfortable, better sounding, much less prone to falling out than the Apple ones. You could do better, I'm sure, but they're well worth the $35 I paid for them.

Yeah, at this point I only have the Shuffle so I don't think it deserves a skin (God knows they probably make them) but I definitely want to check out skins when I get a grown-up iPod (I realized I have way too much music to only have a Shuffle, hahaha).

Thanks for the heads up on the Sony earbuds. I really can't deal with it, and I'm relieved that it sounds like my ears are likely not deformed. Hee. :)
